SMALL TOWN CELEBRATIONS

Little Kanawha Riverfest
The Little Kanawha Riverfest brings the community together with a full day of riverside fun. Visitors can enjoy live music, local food, artisan vendors, and the crowd favorite Anything That Floats But a Boat race, where creative homemade crafts take to the water in a lighthearted competition. It is a celebration of the river, the people, and the spirit of Wirt County.

ELIZABETH-WIRT VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT ICE CREAM SOCIAL
The Elizabeth‑Wirt Volunteer Fire Department Annual Ice Cream Social is a highlight of summer in Wirt County, held each year on the Saturday closest to Independence Day. The day kicks off with the Fireman’s Parade and the 5K Firecracker Run, followed by live music, food, and of course plenty of homemade ice cream. As evening falls, the celebration culminates in a patriotic fireworks display that lights up the sky over Elizabeth — a perfect tribute to community, tradition, and American pride.

WIRT COUNTY FAIR
Held the second full week in August, the Wirt County Fair offers a full celebration of community and Appalachian tradition. Guests can enjoy exciting track events including mud bogs and truck pulls, live entertainment throughout the week, a wide range of local crafter exhibits, classic carnival rides for all ages, and a livestock show that highlights the dedication of area youth. It is a warm and lively gathering that brings the county together year after year. More info can be found here.

WIRT COUNTY PIONEER DAY
Held the first Saturday in October, Wirt County Pioneer Day celebrates Appalachian heritage with a full day of family‑friendly activities. Visitors can enjoy local vendors, live music, museum tours, a classic car show, antique engine displays, and horse‑drawn wagon rides through the town. The highlight of the day is the dramatic Civil War reenactment — a living history experience that brings the past to life in the heart of West Virginia.
